Morgan family papers, 1772-1941 (bulk 1827-1911).

Correspondence, genealogical notes, family histories, and other papers document the Morgan, Frellsen, and related families. Letters of James Morris Morgan (1845-1933) describe political affairs, presidential and congressional campaigns, and social activities in Washington, D.C, especially with reference to William Jennings Bryan and William Howard Taft. Letters also comment on the flight of the Wright brothers' biplane and rice growing in South Carolina and Louisiana, 1908-1911. An autobiography by Margaret Benson Erskine (1840) describes her captivity with Shawnee Indians in Kentucky. A grounds survey of the Baton Rouge State Capitol (1847), and a contract for the construction of a levee on Fairview Plantation, St. Charles Parish, La., are also included.
